Topic: Glory in the Fields
Scripture: Luke 2:8–14: “… And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear…”
Cross-Reference: Psalm 96:3: “Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!”
Reflection:
The shepherds were not priests or princes. They were ordinary labourers, working through the night to protect their flocks. Yet it was to them that heaven’s announcement first came: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom His favour rests.” The message of Christmas came not to the proud, but to the humble.
The glory of God shone in the darkness of their fields, and fear gave way to joy. In that moment, the heavens declared that salvation had come, not for the powerful, but for the poor; not for the deserving, but for the willing.
God’s glory still breaks into ordinary places. You don’t have to be on a mountaintop to encounter Him. He meets you in your field, in your work, in your night seasons. His glory transforms the mundane into the miraculous.
Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to see Your glory in the ordinary. Thank You that Your peace has come to earth through Jesus. Let my life echo the angels’ song: Glory to God in the highest! Amen.
